Motor Carrier Information Systems
Scientex is designing and developing SAFETYNET 2000, a nationwide automated system enabling State and Federal officials to capture, process, evaluate, and monitor the safety fitness of interstate and intrastate commercial motor carriers. Carrier performance data processed by SAFETYNET 2000 include (1) driver-vehicle inspections, (2) commercial vehicle crashes, (3) compliance reviews, (4) complaint and enforcement follow-ups, and (5) enforcement activities. SAFETYNET 2000 features a state-of-the-art client/server architecture with the Oracle RDBMS at its core and a sophisticated user interface designed for the Windows 95/Windows NT environments. It also features advanced querying and data-manipulation tools designed to transform SAFETYNET from a basic data-management system to a true decision-support and analysis system. SAFETYNET 2000 supports a range of communications links to ITS/CVO through the SAFER Data Mailbox.
In designing and building this system, Scientex is working with numerous State agencies and a variety of organizations, including the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, the National Governors Association, and John Hopkins Universitys Applied Physics Laboratory. Scientex also worked with the AAMVA team responsible for oversight of FHWAs Commercial Driver Citations Pilot-Demonstration Project the focus, here, was on assessing the practicality and suitability of utilizing SAFETYNET to capture and process driver citations data.
